It's time to take a look at the Casio GA-2110SU-3AJF watch. It's called the Casioak because it resembles a $40,000 Swiss Audemars Piguet Royal Oak. Resembles is a strong word. It is doubtful anyone will mistake a $99 GA-2110 for a Royal Oak. The 2110 was so popular it sold out the first year and sells above list price. If you can find one.
The 2110 looks a little like a stripped down mudmaster but thinner and not as gaudy. The digital display is small and hard to read. The negative display does not help.
The first order from Etsy's Nihongogo2 was a scam and lost $99. Paypal refunded. The second order from Amazon's Le Watcherie arrived no problem. The negative display was hard to read. The grey model has a positive display, so maybe the displays could be exchanged.
So I bought the grey model and removed the display. There are 4 freaking tiny springs that operate the backlight. The springs will jump who knows where if you try to grab them with tweezers. Two of the springs got lost and a pile a small metal fittings fell out after turning the watch mechanism over. My confidence was shattered and I didn't want to ruin the green watch. But I learned enough from the grey watch, and still had the springs from the green watch as long as I didn't lose them too.
Started to swap the displays. Took the green watch apart and lost one of the springs. Lucky there was a spare spring from the grey watch. Put it back together and the hands worked but not the display. The small strip that connects the display to the control board was upside down. Assembled it again and it worked. The Casio maniac has a custom GA-2110SU-3AJF.
